MG-1: Level 1 Mudgas Analysis
Applications: Useful during the drilling of oil and gas wells to differentiate biogenic and thermogenic methane, and to provide information on maturation levels and migration barriers.
Minimum hydrocarbon concentrations: CH4 must exceed 1,000ppm.
Analyses includes: Gas chromatographic measurement of the concentrations of N2, O2+Ar, CO2, CO, CH4, C2H4, C2H6, C3H6, C3H8, iC4H10, nC4H10, iC5H12, nC5H12, and C6+, and determination of the δ13C of CH4 by compound specific GC-C-IRMS (gas chromatography-combustion-isotope ratio mass spectrometry)
