DG-1: Level 1 Dissolved Gas Analysis
Applications: Useful for determining the source of methane dissolved in water. For instance DG-1 is useful for differentiating thermogenic gas from naturally occurring bacterial gas. Also frequently allows distinguishing different thermogenic gases, or differentiating storage gas from native thermogenic gases.
Sample size required: 300 ml to 1 liter of water. (requires special containers).
Analyses includes: Gas chromatographic measurement of the concentrations of N2, O2, CO2, Ar, H2, He, CH4, C2H6, C3H8, iC4H10, nC4H10, iC5H12, nC5H12, and C6+, mass spectrometric determination of the δ13C of CH4, δD of CH4.
